No one teaches a kid how to eat ice cream

Sorrows hunt for us but we have to hunt for joy.

We assume there is no teaching required for good things. No one teaches a kid how to eat ice cream.

Just because you’re not down, doesn’t mean you’re up.

You want your children to handle the struggles of life to rise above adversity but you naturally assume that the joys will take care of themselves.

Many of the things that help us to cope involve  muting, dampening, cutting short the emotional experience. And if you do these kinds of coping strategies when a good thing happens (“soon it will be gone”), what does it do to the joy?
